Summer is here and the makeup trends are truly beautiful this year!
A few months ago I attended MAC’s presentation on the Trends for SS15, and with great excitement I share them all here with you along with my product recommendations.
Black liner and mascara brings the focus to the eyes. The classic eyeliner is pulled apart, steering clear of anything “princessy” and glamorous, but rather creating the perfect It-Girl liner! Mascara is extreme drawing all the focus to the eyes.
MAC Superslick Liquid Liner in On The Hunt (Available in 4 colours). Water-based, water resistant and super black. It dries to a matte finish and doesn’t smudge. RRP R225 for 1.8ml
Bourjois Pinceau Liquid Liner. Ultra Black and Ultra Smooth. Not as long-lasting as the MAC liner but great as a more affordable option. The thin brush makes it easy to apply and build on. RRP R134.95
BioNike Volume Mascara. A lovely shaped brush to help add volume to lashes. Suited for sensitive eyes and contact lense wearers. RRP R145 available at Dischem
Rimmel’s new Super Curler Mascara, created to add volume and help maximise curl. It’s specifically designed to amplify curl! I love the shape of the brush which makes it easy to apply and push up the lashes. RRP R119.95
Heard of Strobing yet? This trend replaces the carved shadows and conscious contours! Points of focus are created with light instead of contours. Think beautiful, glowing, highlighted, fresh skin. Skin bathed in light!
How to wear this trend: Use a cream, liquid or powder highlighter and apply a liberal amount to the cheek bones, bridge of the nose, inner corner of the eye, a touch just above the brows and the cupids bow of the lips. For a fresh nude look ditch your eyeliner/shadow and apply the highlighter to the eyelids. Compliment this look with a soft touch of mascara.
MAC Cream Colour Base is a great product to create gorgeous creamy highlights. It is also great for layering under powder highlighters for an intense glow. Pictured above is Hush, a soft peachy colour with an icy shimmer. Also available in Luna (lighter) and Pearl (Medium) of which Hush is the darkest of the three. RRP R240.00
MAC Mineral Skinfinish in Global Glow (available in 5 shades) A highly pigmented mineral powder that blends easily into the skin for an intense glow. RRP R370.00
It’s the season for festivals and embracing the carefree side of your spirit with a pop of colour. Keeping the focus on the eyes, and on one area at a time (not all over).
How to wear this trend: Mix, don’t match colours, and be free with placement. Use two different coloured eyeliners in the waterline. Apply a soft wash of a pastel shade from the lash-line to the ball of the eye. Or simply wear a coloured liquid liner on it’s own. If colour is not your thing then opt or a wash of a metallic gold on the lids instead.
Catrice Long Lasting Eye Pencil Waterproof. These pencils are available in a variety of colours, they are easy to apply, waterproof and long-lasting, and no need for sharpening. What more could you ask for! RRP R39.95 available at Dischem
Black Opal Eyeshadow Duo in Roccan It. Affordable and insanely pigmented. Available in a variety of colours. RRP R100.00
Soft nude makeup..looking un-made-up. Sun warmed skin but not bronzed. Keeping it real. This “no” makeup trend does not mean laziness though, in-fact it is quite the opposite. Every detail of the face needs a touch of attention.
How to wear this trend: Wear a light foundation that adds a natural glow to the skin. Add a soft touch of a brown/bronze/golden eye shadow all around the eyes and up onto the lid into the crease. Mascara should enhance the lashes but shouldn’t be too much. Groom your eyebrows..no hard drawn-in lines! Apply a healthy blush colour on the apples of the cheeks and blend up towards the cheekbones and over the bridge of the nose. For thr lips a lovely fresh nude gloss or lipstick will do the trick. Do not over apply. If you feel a bit too “naked” I would recommend playing more with the lip colour and using something that is still a natural shade but provides a bit more colour.
Use Loreal Nude Magique Blur Cream to get that “poreless” complexion. Said to be like photoshop in a bottle this beauty blurs pores, giving a much more flawless looking complexion. Can be used on it’s own or as a primer before foundation. RRP R199.95 exclusive to Clicks
Kiehl’s Actively Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream. A sheer tinted moisturizer that evens out the skin tone and treats it at the same time. It has a beautiful semi-matte finish, it’s non-greasy and it gives a beautiful smooth finish. With Vitamin C to fight pigmentation, anti-oxidants to protect against ageing and an SPF of 50! All-in-One! RRP R525 available at selected Edgars.
The lip colours below can go with all the trends mentioned above, just be careful not to go with too much colour on the Free Party looks.

The uniquely designed applicator tip makes it super easy to apply and create that perfectly defined lip line. RRP R149.95
