Makeup Trends SS15

Summer is here and the makeup trends are truly beautiful this year!

A few months ago I attended MAC’s presentation on the Trends for SS15, and with great excitement I share them all here with you along with my product recommendations.

Black liner and mascara brings the focus to the eyes. The classic eyeliner is pulled apart, steering clear of anything “princessy” and glamorous, but rather creating the perfect It-Girl liner! Mascara is extreme drawing all the focus to the eyes.

How to wear this trend: Steer clear of the classic eyeliner with a flick. Rather create blunt edges, rounded tips and play with placement.Hunt-Superslick-Liquid-Eyeliner-20

MAC Superslick Liquid Liner in On The Hunt (Available in 4 colours). Water-based, water resistant and super black. It dries to a matte finish and doesn’t smudge. RRP R225 for 1.8ml

Bourjois Pinceau Liquid Liner. Ultra Black and Ultra Smooth. Not as long-lasting as the MAC liner but great as a more affordable option. The thin brush makes it easy to apply and build on. RRP R134.95

Hypnôse Volume-à-Porter - Packshot MascaraLancome Volume-a-Porter Masacara. Effortless volume and a long-lasting finish. Easy to use and very effective in adding lots of extra volume to the lashes! RRP R390

BioNike Volume Mascara. A lovely shaped brush to help add volume to lashes. Suited for sensitive eyes and contact lense wearers. RRP R145 available at Dischem

Heard of Strobing yet? This trend replaces the carved shadows and conscious contours! Points of focus are created with light instead of contours. Think beautiful, glowing, highlighted, fresh skin. Skin bathed in light!

How to wear this trend: Use a cream, liquid or powder highlighter and apply a liberal amount to the cheek bones, bridge of the nose, inner corner of the eye, a touch just above the brows and the cupids bow of the lips. For a fresh nude look ditch your eyeliner/shadow and apply the highlighter to the eyelids. Compliment this look with a soft touch of mascara.

mac_sku_MTPR54_640x600_0MAC Cream Colour Base is a great product to create gorgeous creamy highlights. It is also great for layering under powder highlighters for an intense glow. Pictured above is Hush, a soft peachy colour with an icy shimmer. Also available in Luna (lighter) and Pearl (Medium) of which Hush is the darkest of the three. RRP R240.00

MAC Mineral Skinfinish in Global Glow (available in 5 shades) A highly pigmented mineral powder that blends easily into the skin for an intense glow. RRP R370.00

It’s the season for festivals and embracing the carefree side of your spirit with a pop of colour. Keeping the focus on the eyes, and on one area at a time (not all over).

How to wear this trend: Mix, don’t match colours, and be free with placement. Use two different coloured eyeliners in the waterline. Apply a soft wash of a pastel shade from the lash-line to the ball of the eye. Or simply wear a coloured liquid liner on it’s own. If colour is not your thing then opt or a wash of a metallic gold on the lids instead.

Catrice Long Lasting Eye Pencil Waterproof. These pencils are available in a variety of colours, they are easy to apply, waterproof and long-lasting, and no need for sharpening. What more could you ask for! RRP R39.95 available at Dischem

Basic CMYK EyeshadowDuo_Roccan_It_10

Black Opal Eyeshadow Duo in Roccan It. Affordable and insanely pigmented. Available in a variety of colours. RRP R100.00

MAC_SS15_Trend_003_nomakeup mac-aw15-beauty-trends-L-CH5DZd

Soft nude makeup..looking un-made-up. Sun warmed skin but not bronzed. Keeping it real. This “no” makeup trend does not mean laziness though, in-fact it is quite the opposite. Every detail of the face needs a touch of attention.

How to wear this trend: Wear a light foundation that adds a natural glow to the skin. Add a soft touch of a brown/bronze/golden eye shadow all around the eyes and up onto the lid into the crease. Mascara should enhance the lashes but shouldn’t be too much. Groom your hard drawn-in lines! Apply a healthy blush colour on the apples of the cheeks and blend up towards the cheekbones and over the bridge of the nose. For thr lips a lovely fresh nude gloss or lipstick will do the trick. Do not over apply. If you feel a bit too “naked” I would recommend playing more with the lip colour and using something that is still a natural shade but provides a bit more colour.

L__039_Or_eacute_al_Paris_Nude_Magique_Blur_Cream_Light_to_Medium_Skin_25ml_1393858644_mainUse Loreal Nude Magique Blur Cream to get that “poreless” complexion. Said to be like photoshop in a bottle this beauty blurs pores, giving a much more flawless looking complexion. Can be used on it’s own or as a primer before foundation. RRP R199.95 exclusive to Clicks

Colour Treated Hair Rescue

The journey of a woman and her hair is very unique one

I, as I am sure many other women can relate, just never seem to learn my lesson. I personally strive to have a healthy, thick and glossy head of hair. That said I also have those completely irrational urges (inspired by utter boredom with what healthy says) to try something different! You all know exactly what I mean right? 🙂

First I wanted PURPLE hair! This is something I had been wanting to do for a very long time. So I went ahead and gave it a go, by myself, at home. Yes, I do admit not the best idea! I went ahead and bleached my hair to an almost white finish and then used Manic Panic. The results are below.

The colour was not as bright as I wanted, because this is the kind of thing you REALLY should have professionally done, but it provided me with some fun for a week or two. It also helped me realize that my hair is just to thin and fine to sport bright fun colours AND bright hair colours are extremely high maintenance!

Once the colour had faded I decided to go to a salon and get my hair professionally done.

 IMG_9018   IMG_9009

We went for Balayage. Personally I am not the biggest fan of a golden blonde with my skin tone, but it sure looked a lot better than when I had walked in there with my faded purple hair.

When I got home I noticed my hair still had a green tinge from when I had the purple in. Can you see it?

As you can see in the pic above my hair has been really damaged by this stage! I didn’t want to add more colour, but this green was not acceptable. I hit Google, and Google said Tomato sauce is my solution. So disgusting but so worth it! I slathered it all over my hair and cling wrapped my head. Waited 30 mins and washed it our with shampoo, and conditioned my hair as per usual. Look at the difference below. No more green, and the blonde bits are actually darker! The citric acid helps to remove the mineral build up, and the red pigment in the tomato sauce counter acts the green and some of the yellow pigments.

 IMG_9029   IMG_9034

Now the journey started to get my hair back to good health.

A Sulfate-Free Shampoo is an absolute must in your journey to restoring health to your hair. Sulfates strip your hair, weakening bonds and removing all moisture, therefore increasing breakage. I have been using Loreal Professionnel Vitamino Delicate Color Sulfate Free Shampoo. This shampoo gently cleanses and protects your hair, also helping the colour last longer. I do need to use a bit extra to get my hair clean, but I love that it doesn’t leave my hair feeling squeaky and knotty.

RRP 250ml for R215.00

Available at Salons

VitaminoCOLOR_ShampSulfateFREE250For Conditioner I have been using the sister to this shampoo, Loreal Professionnel Lumino Contrast Masque. A lovely moisturizing masque that does not leave my hair feeling and looking heavy. This masque works at replenishing the hair fiber and helps combat lipid loss. I use it in the shower after shampooing. Make sure to gentle squeeze out as much water from your hair as possible before applying the masque to allow for better absorption.

RRP 200ml for R283.00

Available at Salons

With my hair being so damaged I do unfortunately need to heat style my hair to get rid of all the frizz and fly-aways. To protect my hair I have been LOVING the Loreal Elvive ExtraOrdinary Oil. I use it both at home and in my kit! You can use it before shampooing to nourish your hair, before blow drying to protect your hair or as a leave-in treatment for smooth and shiny hair. I love how this product is suited for all hair types and doesn’t leave my hair looking oily/greasy. This has been one of the most versatile products in my hair styling kit!

RRP 100ml for R169.99

At Dischem it is currently R139.00!

CHANEL Chance Eau Vive

Chance is a whirlwind. A moment to be seized. To hold in your arms.

This ad is one of my absolutely favourites from this year. Since it’s release I have been watching it again-and-again, just to spark that sense of adventure and creativity. It perfectly captures the sense of momentum, that intense energy you feel when you go ahead and take that Chance. The Chance that brings a sense of boundless dynamism. Like Mademoiselle Chanel often used to say, “Chance only comes to those who know how to recognize it, carried by a gust of optimism.”

With that, we welcome CHANEL’s latest edition to the Chance family, Chance Eau Vive.

Chance Eau Vive
An energizing sensation

Chance Eau Vive EDTA gorgeously feminine fragrance! I fell in-love with this fragrance at the very first sniff. Treasured in the elegant and sophisticated Chance bottle, this fragrance immediately stole the girly, adventurous part of my heart.

A floral-zesty fragrance with an explosive character. Like a radiant boost of vitality, it opens on a fresh burst of citrus to reveal a delicate heart of jasmine and white musk on an elegant base of fresh vetiver, cedarwood and iris.

Top note: Grapefruit

Mid Notes: Jasmine and White Musks

Base note: Fresh Vetiver (a grass), Cedarwood and Iris

“A creation that gives momentum, like the intense energy that drives those
born under a lucky star. A vitality that is not fleeting, but rather a source of
boundless dynamism.”

A happy floral fragrance combining pink pepper, jasmine, amber and patchouli. In turn floral, woody, spicy and musky

Top note: Pink Pepper

Mid notes: Jasmine, Hyacinth, Iris and Musk

of cherishing every second as if it were the best of your life. A manifesto
of optimism.”

A splash of good luck

Chance Eau Fraiche EDT

The first offshoot of the CHANCE fragrance, created in 2007. Naturally the fragrance shares the major accords of its predecessor, the original CHANCE, but freshness is at the heart of this fragrance. This interpretation is like taking a dizzying dive that grips the senses with an intense freshness!

A floral-sparkling fragrance where a delicate jasmine meets the freshness of lemon

Top note: Citrus

Mid notes: Jasmine and Musk

Base note: Dry teak wood

“A shiver of happiness like tiny bubbles of water that brush
against the skin and rise to the surface…”

 Chance Eau Tendre
A tender cocoon

Chance Eau Tendre EDT

Created in 2010 CHANCE EAU TENDRE is a fragrance for dreamers. A heartwarming

Delicate, elegant, feminine. A cashmere sweater you love to curl up in. A soft scarf that soothes the senses.

CHANEL Fall-Winter 2015/16 Haute Couture Show

For the Fall-Winter 2015/16 Haute Couture Show, Karl Lagerfeld designed individual outfits for about 20 celebrities, including Kristen Stewart, Lily-Rose Depp (the new face of Chanel), Julianne Moore and Rita Ora, to name just a few. The show started with them all arriving to a reinvented casino at the Grand Palais, taking their seats, and playing a game of Blackjack.

They were center-stage as the models walked the show around them.

The Haute Couture gowns worn by the celebrities, made especially for the event, were accessorised with re-editions in platinum and diamonds of the first unique “Bijoux de Diamants” collection created by Mademoiselle Chanel in 1932.

Talk about amazing!

Below is the short Story of the beautiful show:

To see the full show, making of the collection, the details and more, click HERE

I was off course most interested in the make-up and hair.

Neo-tomboy plunging bob hairstyles, natural matte skin, strong brows, ruby lips and a striking blushed contour.

Classic and elegant, yet still modern!

159C0631 159C0748 159C1483 159C1560 159C1583

If you love this look as much as I do and want to know how to adapt this makeup look to everyday, this is what I would recommend:

Be sure your skin is well looked after and beautiful hydrated. Chanel’s Hydra Beauty products were used on the models for the show. For Foundation try the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Makeup SPF15 for a flawless but natural complexion. Use the Correcteur Perfection Long Lasting Concealer to concealer ONLY where needed.

Be sure to apply a light touch of foundation on the eyelids and a soft touch of mascara for that fresh eyed look.

The secret when doing a full, filled-in brow, is to not go too dark! If you are a brunette, try Le Sourcil De Chanel Perfect Brows “Brun” (No20). Do not draw in your brows with hard lines, but rather do soft feathered lines until you have achieved the desired effect.

Cheeks! Those cheeks! Although they look beautiful on these perfectly styled models, let’s face it, us everyday girls look a bit ridiculous when we try this. I recommend using a blush that has the same tone as the lip colour, like the Joues Contraste “Frivole” Powder Blush (No76) that was used on the models. Instead of using the blush as dramatic as pictured above, apply the blush in the same area, just a bit higher, and not so intense. Personally I would apply my contour colour exactly where you see the blush, and then apply the blush just above that. Make sense?

Lastly the lips! A beautiful deep Ruby red applied just a touch fuller than the natural lip line. Le Crayon Levres Precision Lip Definer in “Rouge Profong” (No57) and Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Colour in “la Bouleversante” (No15- coming August 21st) was used for the show.

I would love to see how you guys interpret this pretty makeup look. If you would like to, Share your pics with me on Instagram or Twitter @marlimakeup

Lots of love
