My New Hair with Savas Hair

Savas Hair – A Hidden Gem

I usually do my own hair, mainly due to some really bad experiences I have had in the past. But there are certain things that I just can’t do on my own, for example, advanced hair colour!

I was itching for something complicated and new, and the only trustworthy hairdresser that came to mind was Savas. I met Savas 8 years ago when we were both studying makeup. Back then Savas had already shown extreme passion and an incredible talent for hair. Whilst studying makeup he was doing his apprenticeship as a hairdresser at Scar hair in Kloof street.

Fast forward 8 years, and now Savas is the founder and owner of one of Cape Town’s most popular salons, Savas Hair , in Claremont.

The soon to be re-vamped salon is beautifully decorated with tasteful mixes of industrial decor, cubed mirrors suspended from the ceilings, touches of wood, and artisan light bulbs adding a sense of tranquility.

Savas hair is a family run business overflowing with passion!

Although Savas has 15 staff, the core of his salon is formed by himself, his two brothers and their cousin.

Savas– Founder. Owner. Inspiring freedom.

Giovanni (brother)– Colour Maestro. Perfectionist.

Giancarla (brother)– Great with Kids. Does gorgeous up-styles.

Nicholas (cousin)– Genius. Quiet. Talented. Unfortunately I wasn’t lucky enough to meet him as he is away on holiday, but rumour has it that he gives the best head massage.

You simply can’t leave Savas Hair without experiencing Paul in action..the 5 pound barber from London. He is a specialist at men’s haircuts with a record standing at 60 Gents haircuts in one day! Watching him cut hair is like watching an artistic performance.

Monique– The apprentice. Already proving that she is extremely talented and more than capable.

In just 4 years Savas has built a thriving business, as you can see. What is his secret? He humbly says that his business philosophy is based on striving for excellence, keeping his clients happy. His motivation he says is that ‘You are only as good as your last cut or colour’  Refreshingly Savas adds that he has realized it is not always about money. If you provide good service customers will come. He sees his work as an exchange of energy. He makes you feel fabulous, in turn he feels great, and that energy drives his passion. Instant gratification! A humble man with a heart for what he does, for his business, and his staff.

If you follow me on Instagram you would’ve noticed a flash of purple in my hair that lasted only about a week, before it all washed out and left my hair with a horrible tinge of army green. In desperation I proceeded to colour my hair a blue black, that washed out to become a dark brown.

This is when I went to go see Savas, and needless to say I presented him with quite a challenge.

We decided to do a beautiful Balayage, a free-hand technique that allows for a natural sun-kissed hair colour.

Savas selected sections of hair where the colour was lifted to create the Balayage effect. B3 Brazilian Bond Builder was added to the bleach to protect my hair. This amazing product reinforces the bonds that make up the cellular membranes, helping prevent the loss of the cuticle and cortex cells responsible for supporting the structure of the hair. Therefore dramatically reducing breakage and preventing damage during all color services.

After a rinse, a golden toner was applied all over my hair to lift the previous dyes, which had left my hair ashy.

After this had developed for long enough my hair was washed again, and a warm toned medium brown colour was applied all over. Below you can see the washed and dried result.

Lastly Savas carefully hand painted strips of hair to add that natural sun-kissed look to my hair.

And VOILA!!! The end result, a golden toned sun-kissed hair colour.

Long-lasting nail colour- CND Shellac

I am forever looking for long-lasting nail colours. The most I have been able to get out of my nail polish is 3, maybe 4 days, at a push. I am always washing my hands, always working with my hands, my nails are exposed to hairsprays and alcohols, heat and chipping everyday. With my nails being exposed to all of this daily, I would love to be able to protect them whilst having them look great as well!

Everyone recommended I try Gelish! By the third failed attempt my nails were buffed paper thin and the product just didn’t last on me. I didn’t like the fact that so many layers had to be applied and I ended-up with this thick slab of stuff on my nails. With the Gelish they also had to leave a little gap between the nail colour and the cuticle, which meant within 5 days I needed to get them soaked off with acetone as it looked too grown-out. The condition of nails afterwards was not worth the effort. I am also not a fan of acrylic nails. So, that was my last attempt at trying something longer lasting than just good old nail polish.

Enter CND Shellac overlay! I was invited by the lovely ladies at Ageless Faces to try the product. I was very apprehensive due to my previous experiences with this type of thing, but decided to go give it a try.

Nina started cleaning my nails with 98% Alcohol to remove all oils and dirt, then applied the base coat. NO BUFFING REQUIRED! The base coat was set in the little UV Light station. She then proceeded with the nail colour I had chosen, Lobster Roll, a lovely deep coral. I love how ‘workable’ this product is. She could apply it right up to the cuticle and build the cover to the exact desired results. After each colour layer my nails were set in the UV Light. Once we were both happy with the colour she applied the top coat which was then also set under the light. At this stage we were sitting at about 5 layers, and it didn’t look or feel thick at all. I also need to mention that not once did my nails feel warm/hot when placed under the light.

As a final touch the CND Shellac Solar Oil was applied. It gets absorbed through the breathable CND Shellac overlay to nourish the nails, even after application.

There is a great variety of colours available. Pictured above is only some of the available colours.

My CND Shellac nails lasted 10 days! I couldn’t believe it. They still looked great, just the front edges started lifting.

The soaking off process was also very pleasant as they don’t use any acetone. They have a special nourishing remover for the CND Shellac nails which gets soaked in cotton wool, placed on the nail, and wrapped in tin foil. This sits for 5-10 minutes depending on the amount of layers that were applied. Again no buffing required! After all the product is removed the Solar Oil gets applied and rubbed into the nails.

My nails looked great and felt nourished!

I can most definitely recommend the CND Shellac overlay.

They currently have a special running at Ageless Faces. R150 for the CND Shellac overlay. This does not include a manicure!

They are based at 8 Cavendish Street, Claremont, Cape Town. 021 683 4424

Go give them a try and let me know about your CND Shellac overlay experience!

**Please note there are fake Shellac products out there. It has to say CND Shellac for it to be the real deal 😉

AIRBRUSH MAKEUP-What it is & How it works?

I have always loved Airbrush Makeup! As I use it more-and-more on myself and on shoots I am starting to realize that most people don’t actually know what Airbrush Makeup is and How it works!
SO here is a video that will help anyone and everyone gain a better understanding of Airbrush Makeup.

Did that help?

Airbrush makeup is amazing right!

You can also use Airbrush Makeup on hair. I’ve had to cover up some bad regrowth, change a dark haired man to salt&pepper, and change a blonde into a brunette, all using my Airbrush! It works really well for covering up tattoos and for me the best part is the flawless cover it gives without having to pack on stacks of makeup.

If you are interested, I do present Airbrush Makeup Courses. The next course will be held on the 26th and 28th of June 2015 in Kloof street, Gardens, Cape Town.
If you are interested you can contact me at

As mentioned in the video I am also looking into doing an on-line course. Let me know if this is something you would be interested in 🙂
